Vaporizing cooling is the easy and easy way of cooling used since ancient times. Two and a half thousand years ago in Ancient Egypt people used for air cooling the humidified curtains from reed. The effect of cooling is reached because water evaporating from a surface absorbs heat from the air passing through it. Same effect we
we feel after a rain when temperature of air decreases by several degrees thanks to the fact that drops of a rain absorb heat from air.

Short review of Munters MEC22

The cooler of the vaporizing Munters MEC22 type is the extremely highly effective economic cooler / humidifier possessing a number of advantages before the analogs.

1. MEC22 has three options of execution: with the lower air supply (MEC22BA), the top air supply (MEC22TA) and lateral air supply (MEC22SA). Such variation of execution allows to mount it in any possible way. The case is made of the high-strength plastic steady against influence of ultra-violet radiation. The design of the case is designed so that as much as possible to facilitate performance of service works.

2. The cooler has the built-in close-meshed mesh filters for a filtration of large particles from external air. Besides, vaporizing cartridges are the filtering elements, besieging and washing away in system of the sewerage the remained pollution from air. Thus, external air is exposed to double cleaning and to the room the pure, moistened and oxygenated air moves.

3. The engine of the fan can work as for air supply (16 speeds), and in the extract mode (8 speeds). Blades of the fan have a wavy design that reduces resistance to an air stream. It is more than air, it is less than noise!

4. The water tank has an inclined design that helps to keep it clean after water discharge. The professional water pump is supplied with protection against an overload, is capable to work at the empty tank and has the long term of operation.

5. The Munters company offers the amplest opportunities on management of MEC22 cooler. All units are delivered with the wireless control panel with the built-in sensors of temperature and humidity (delivery with the wire control panel is also possible). Thus, the cooler can work in the automatic mode, supporting the required air parameters. Besides, several coolers can be united in group and to operate it as to a single whole. One control panel can operate several groups (at most 9 groups, at most 20 coolers). For the rest, MEC22 has all necessary functions of management in an arsenal:

Conclusion

It is obvious that, at slightly different dimensions and many similar characteristics, MEC22 cooler favourably differs from the competitor. MEC22 surpasses the competitor in airproductivity (15000 m3/h against 10830 m3/h at 80 Pas) and on the cooling ability (58 kW against 14,7 kW) calculated under identical conditions. Such effect is reached because the area of vaporizing material in MEC22 (2,8 sq.m) on the whole square meter more than at TBA550 (1,8 sq.m). Besides, thickness of the material CELdek makes 100 mm (against 90 mm of Chillcel) it is 75% more than the evaporating material that means higher efficiency of evaporation. Thus, MEC22 surpasses TBA550 cooler in key parameters and provides the high level of energy saving.

Calculation of MEC22

Let's calculate key parameters (to temperatures at the exit and water consumption) for MEC22 cooler, proceeding from average climatic data on Kazan. We will take historical parameters of air as a basis over the last 5 years (according to the website http://www.wunderground.com/): average temperature during the flight period of time makes 28 °C at relative humidity of 55%.

  1. Temperature at the exit pays off on a formula:

TD2 = TD1 - η (TD1 – TW1) / 100, where

TD1 - temperature on the dry thermometer on a cooler entrance

TW1 - temperature on the damp thermometer at the cooler exit

TD2 - temperature on the dry thermometer at the cooler exit

η efficiency of evaporation (65% for these climatic conditions)

Then

TD2 = 28 - 65 (28 - 21,2)/100 = 23,6 °C that meets requirements for temporary use of temperature indoors in the range from 20 to 24 °C.

It should be noted that efficiency of evaporation of subjects is more, than temperature of external air is higher.

  1. P refrigerating capacity at such climatic conditions will make:

P = ρ * V * (Tvkhod Tvykhod) = 1,2*15000/3600*(28-23,6) = 22 kW, where

ρ – the specific density of air (kg/m3)

V – consumption of air (m3/s)

Tvkhod – temperature on an entrance (°C)

Tvykhod – temperature at the exit (°C)

  1. And, at last, the water consumption of Q will make:

Q = ρ * (x2 x1) = 1,2*(14,9-13) = 2,3 l/h on 1000 m3 of the cooled air, where

x1 and x2 ‐ values of absolute humidity on an entrance and an exit of a cooler.
